Conservation Architecture & Design
It is a symbol of our cultural identity – a part of our heritage. It is a record of change sometimes spanning millenia and as such should be respected and sensitively approached when considering a decision of when and how to engage in a design intervention. This intervention may take the form of a change to the existing structure or planning a new addition to the existing building to allow a change of use.
ACP considers Conservation Architecture & Design to be the route through which Ireland’s rich historic built environment is blended harmoniously with modern life and our changing lifestyles. We believe that the historic structures which provide such character and heritage to our environment should be highly valued and any design intervention should be sensitively considered in a way that utilizes their functionality to the full, respects their history and ensures an economically viable future.
We view each new project as a unique challenge. Careful consideration goes into comprehending the client’s vision, the historic fabric and its strengths and weaknesses, the design possibilities and opportunities presented, and communicating our thoughts to the client. Ultimately, through a combination of design, science, art, craft and technology (new and old), and negotiation with the authorities, a plan is formed to renew the life of the historic structure in a manner that is sympathetic with its past.
